Hans Otte – The Book of Sounds (Das Book Der Klänge)

Beacon Sound’s 2018 reissue and remastering of Hans Otte’s minimalist masterpiece, Das Book Der Klänge. Hans Otte was a poet, composer, pianist and also director of Radio Bremen in Germany for 25 years. Through his position in broadcast he was instrumental in exposing europe to the radical musical movements of John Cage and Steve Reich. The former is credited with inspiring Otte’s creation of Das Book Der Klänge as a reflection on his entire musical practice and an effort to get to the core of its organic nature. The result of this introspective development was the creation of this “cyclical” collection of recordings composed from 1979 – 1982 and then released in 1984.
