DJ Plead – Pleats Plead

‘Almost exactly a year on from dropping the Get In Circle EP on Air Max ‘97’s DECISIONS imprint, Lebanese-Australian artist DJ Plead rocks up on TSVI and Wallwork’s Nervous Horizon. Pleats Plead is a collection of dense, tough drum workouts that are spiked with synths and melody. Many of the cuts here draw on the Plead’s Lebanese heritage for inspiration. This is most notable in the flurries of flute and mijwiz (an Arabic reed instrument) that flutter across cuts like ‘Baharat’. Entries such as ‘Salt And Pepper’ and ‘Shoulder Pop’ also feature samples of more traditional percussion work alongside big club drums. All in all it’s a bracing mix of styles that Plead brings on Pleats Plead, one that should thrill fans of Nguzunguzu and Leonce.’
