Equiknoxx Music – Colón Man

‘2017’s Colón Man is a heady departure into the world of Jamaica’s “digital dancehall” crew Equiknoxx. Their last LP, 2016’s Bird Sound Power, acted as a collection of previously unreleased material whereas Colón Man is something contained, complete, and reflective of a focused project. One of the album’s strengths can be found in the duo’s treatment of sound design. While the genre of dancehall is known for being playful with it’s sound palette there is something unique about Equiknoxx that stands out; something a bit more vague, spacey and less direct. Released on Demdike Stare’s leftfield label DDS (known for releasing the likes of Mica Levi, Tirzah and Shinichi Atobe) it should come as no surprise that we find ourselves transported into alien territory through the Equiknoxx sound.’
