Feist – Let It Die

Debut album from Feist who has worked with The Broken Social Scene, Gonzales and Peaches. ‘Let It Die’ is a vocal album that nods at the history of vocal pop with covers by Francois Hardy, Ron Sexsmith and even the brothers Gibb. the stripped down version of the Bee Gees love you inside and out, which believe or not, is one of the best tracks. She does a fantastic job modernizing this song by throwing out the ostentatious arrangements of 70s disco and replacing the whiney Gibb harmonies. All thats left are the bare essentials, which keep the songs groove, sprinkled with some glitchy sample mangling goodness courtesy of the original version. this track is very much emblematic of the albums whole minimalist sound. a very beautiful album of melody and mood.
