“Gas is the longstanding ambient side project of techno heavyweight, visual artist and Kompakt Records co-founder Wolfgang Voigt. The project started in 1995 as a place to expand upon more minimal compositions and allow for an introspective and less dance floor oriented outlet. Inspired by early childhood memories of exploring nearby forests; the album feels like a sonic version of a Gerhard Richter painting. At first the experience is seemingly simple, but when allowed more time dynamic textures start to appear. Pop was released in 2000 and is considered to be one of the most influential pieces of contemporary ambient music to date. Give it time.”
