Gold Panda – Half of Where You Live

Half of Where You Live is an homage to some of the geography that has been imprinted on this British producers style; Brazil, Japan, Hong Kong, and his current city of residence (you guessed it!) Berlin, are clearly present and part of the album’s DNA. While the tone of the album is relatively steady, it is sprinkled with some beautiful ambient and melodic excursions. These breaths of fresh air (“My Father In Hong Kong 1961” among them) keep the more dance forward tracks grounded and make some much needed space from the house and juke (ish) vibes of the album.

Pitchfork mag compared the album to the “shimmering vignettes that call back to the pretty-sounding IDM that German imprint Morr Music was known for in the early 2000s.” We happen to be Big Shiny fans of that kind of thing.
